Deb DeBoutez

Deb DeBoutez is a candidate running for Greeley City Council, Ward II. As it stands, she is running unopposed.

Brett Payton currently holds the seat, though his term is up this year, and he is running for the at-large seat, currently held by Kristin Zasada.

Greeley City Council is made up of seven members, including the mayor, who act as the city’s legislative body, adopting laws and policies and setting priorities to guide the city.

Here’s what DeBoutez says about herself:

Hi! I am Deb DeBoutez, and I am excited to announce my candidacy to represent Ward II on the Greeley City Council. I am a 27-year resident of southeast Greeley with a passion for building community by helping area residents, business owners, and visitors have a high-quality experience in our city. Ward II encompasses some of the oldest and most beloved neighborhoods in the community. It is a beautiful, diverse, and complex part of the city, but it sometimes gets overlooked. My main goal is to represent the interests of southeast Greeley on the City Council and to direct attention and resources to this part of town.

As a former single mom and proud non-traditional graduate of UNC, I am passionate about raising the standard of health, comfort, and happiness (quality of life) for the people I represent, and I also have extensive knowledge on how to get that done.

I recently retired from the city after 13 years. I served as the Neighborhood Program Specialist in the Community Development, City Manager’s Office, and Communication and Engagement departments.  Before that, I worked for nine years as an advocate for affordable housing, living wages and access to healthcare as a lobbyist for the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless.

In addition to my work experience, I have been a longtime volunteer in the community serving various capacities on such boards as the Greeley Urban Renewal Authority, including as president, and as a member of the Greeley Transitional House (aka Greeley Family House), the Weld Food Bank, Greeley/Weld League of Women Voters and as a parent volunteer at various schools in Greeley-Evans School District 6.  I have been an activist for people and the city for over 22 years.

I have the time, energy, and capacity to hit the ground running and work for the priorities that benefit all of Greeley.

My three main concerns are smart growth, accessible and healthy outdoor spaces, and increasing quality of life.

We cultivate smart growth with equitable investment in older neighborhoods commensurate with investment in new neighborhoods. We must also ensure that each neighborhood has ample green space available to them in a walkable distance.  Further, we need to connect these outdoor spaces to each other via safe bike and walk routes. We enhance quality of life by improving our physical environment and infrastructure, all the while maintaining a balance in housing options.  I want to ensure that people have affordable, safe housing and opportunities to live and invest in Ward II, should they choose. And I hope they will.

Southeast Greeley is a wonderful place to live and has great potential. When our neighborhoods experience increased attention and investment, residents respond with pride and increased interest in helping their neighbors, which binds the community.

Building community is my ultimate goal for Greeley and is why I am running to represent residents of Ward II on Greeley City Council. I hope to earn their trust and vote in the upcoming election on November 2, 2021.
